Polluting Pharma Units Fined
Polluting Units Discharge Harmful Effluents
Continuing his series of stories on humans affecting the environment negatively, Sudhakar wrote about Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) cracking down on four industries for breaking polluting norms. Sudhakar explained the numerous environmental safety protocols broken and their effects on human health. His reports also notified the pharma companies and captive power plants about the updated norms by the pollution board.
Sudhakar reported on the follow-up in August same year when a pharma company and two distilleries in Telangana that violated rules on the installation of online effluent and emission monitoring systems were shut down by the CPCB. Without regulation, the units were capable of discharging pollutants into the air and water.
Sudhakar brought to light the delay in creating a Telangana Pollution Control Appellate Authority which would give the industries a chance for a quick appeal for their grievances.
