Exposing Banned Drugs On Market
Medical Shops Sell Faulty Drugs
In 2011, when the Ministry of Health issued a list of banned drugs that cannot be sold over the counter or otherwise, Sudhakar toured the local pharmacies in the city to check the implementation of the rules. His investigation revealed that drugs with harmful side affects such as the ‘cough-cold drug’ phenylpropanalamine, the analgesic anti-inflammatory Nimesulide, Cisaspride and others were still being sold at the medicine shops. And this comes after the State Drug Control Administration claimed that they had recalled Rs 12 crore worth of banned drug formulations from the state.
Sudhakar found that around 250 formulations of these banned drugs were still on the market and brought it to the notice of the state administration.
