Carbon Sink Disappears with Forests

Adverse Man-made Changes to Ecology

Sudhakar has always been at the forefront of reporting on man-made changes to the environment and how it can affect us in return. One such story was an investigation into the disappearance of carbon sink along with the unfettered deforestation in Andhra Pradesh.

Breaking down the data by the AP Forest Inventory Report 2010, Sudhakar informed the decrease in the forest cover by 60 million cubic meters which would affect various environmental factors in the region. Deforestation has not only dwindled the amount of forest available as stock but also limited it to regions bordering Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Odisha which were home to Naxals. Sudhakar wrote that forest fires, rampant cattle grazing and bamboo forests are some of the major threats to forest cover.
